Trends I Love: Mixed Up Manis

This has got to be one of my very favorite trends of the summer. Nail polish trends have never really embraced tons of color or variation, so I was a little disappointed, but not surprised, when I was looking at the upcoming polish trends for summer back in January and saw that it was mostly pastels and nudes. However, now summer has rolled around and bright is back! I absolutely love, love, love the idea of painting four nails on each hand one color, and the last nail another. It looks so cool and it gives you so much room for fun with your mani. I like that it's a little more toned down than the typical I'm-seven-so-I'm-painting-each-nail-a-different-color look, but it allows you to be so much more creative than the typical monotone mani. My favorite combos that I've done so far have probably been Braziliant on my thumbs, pointers, middles, and pinkies and Fruit Sangria on my ring fingers (both colors by Essie). I also really liked the combo of Fiercely Fiona by OPI and Happy Birthday by Debrah Lippman. I also tried out Yes I Can-Can by OPI and Social Climber by Sephora by OPI with China Glaze Black Crackle over it on the ring fingers (See pic below)...that combo hasn't been my fav, but I still like it!
Also, speaking of crackle, that's the other trend I can't get enough of!!! It is seriously the coolest thing ever! I have 2 China Glazes (black mesh and broken hearted which is pink) and one OPI (blue shatter). I have to say, so far I like the China glaze polishes better. I think it has an easier application and a nicer shatter, but I haven't used the OPI that much yet, so we'll see. I believe now OPI, China Glaze, Sally Hansen, and Sephora by OPI all have shatter collections (China Glaze has two different collections and OPI came out with two individual polishes before their complete collection), so there is pretty much a shatter brand for every price range!

Beat the Heat: What I'm Wearing

Everybody has been there: those super hot, sticky days where you don't want to do anything, but you know you have to... For me, I never want to change out of my pjs, lt alonethink about putting on a full face of makeup. So here's how I beat the heat and still look presentable!
*The first thing I do is get dressed. On hot days I like stuff that's loose and comfy. I go for athletic shorts, a bright sports bra, and a tank! It makes you look bright while keeping you cool and comfy.
*Makeup always makes me feel hotter on a hot day so I go for a simple look. I just pu a touch of concealor on problem spots, then add a quick cheek stain (Benefit's posietint=fab),swipe on a touch of bronzed on my forehead, chin, cheeks, and nose, put on a coat of my fab mascara (the falsies FTW), and dab a bit of an illuminator on my brow bones and above my cheek bones. It's the perfect summery look: light, fresh, and bright.
*on hot days I HATE using heat on my hair and I also hate my hair sticking to my face, for this reason, I always go for the ponytail. I just pull my hair back with an elastic, add a headband, and I'm good to go!

Super Easy Emma Watson Seventeen Cover Look

I got the newest Seventeen Magazine issue awhile ago, and I absolutely loved Emma Watson's fresh faced look on that was on the cover!  I looked inside to see the products they used, and was disappointed to see that they were all pretty expensive Lancome products ($29 lipstick anyone?).  Granted, Emma is the a Lancome spokesperson now, so I guess it makes sense haha.  Anyway, I decided to recreate this look without the hefty price tag, and I'll tell you guys how to do it too!

1.)  One of the first things I noticed about this look is how great and glowy Emma's skin looks.  To achieve this look, you need to use a foundation.  When I did mine, I even added a few drops of illuminator (I use Benefit's High Beam...it's a little pricey but I really love it) to really amp it up.  I just have my go to foundation which is the Clean line by CoverGirl (only $7.99 as opposed to Lancome's which is $37).
2.)  For cheeks, they tell you to use a rose Lancome blush, but I find that CoverGirl's Cheekers blush in Rose Silk or Classic Pink gives you the same look at a fraction of the cost ($4.99 vs $30).
3.)  At first glance, it looks as if Emma is wearing a coral-y shadow over her whole lid, but if you look closely, you can actually see it is just a thick line.  To achieve this look, dusted my whole eye, brow to lashline with a neutral beige (I used Sephora's Universal beige...again, a little pricey, but ANY neutral color will do!).  Next, I took a thick liner brush, got it a little wet, and got the coral-y shadow I wanted onto the brush (I used an orangey color from my BH cosmetics pallete, but any orange shadow will do (L'Oreal, Covergirl, etc all have shades that will work).  You might also need to add a little pink or yellow to get the exact right shade.
4.)  Emma's lashes in this look are super defined.  To get this look, I use a combo of L'Oreal Paris's Voluminous Million Lashes and Maybelline's The Falsies.  I applied one coat of VML and then, on top of that, one coat of Falsies on both top and bottom lashes.
5.)  For lips, any coral shade will do.  Emma's lips aren't super shiny in this look, so a lip stain with a balm would work really well (I've heard Benefit's ChaCha Tint is a gorgeous coral, but again, a little pricey).  According to the magazine, Emma's look is achieved with a lip stick, and I have found that CoverGirl's Lip Perfection Lip Color in Flame is a good match.  For my look, I used a gloss from an old Sephora pallete because I couldn't find my lipstick.

All the products for Emma's look (excluding the eyeshadows) would cost $130.  The products that I would use (again not including shadows) would come to $36.45, and you're getting 2 masacaras in there!  So much better!

Here is the look I came up with.  It's a tad more subtle, but you can always make it more dramatic by building the color :)  Hope you enjoy!
